TP-Link is ready for IPv6

As one of the most competitive providers of networking products, we at TP-Link have carried through our plan to improve our routers by ensuring compliance with IPv6 (please check the support list to see which products are compatible now). TP-Link has been and will continue to provide more high quality products supporting IPv6.

IPv6 — the foundation of the next generation of Internet

With the ever-increasing number of new devices being connected to the Internet, the number of available IP addresses using the original IPv4 standard will soon be depleted. The exhaustion of IPv4 addresses makes support for IPv6 essential to satisfy the growth of IP address users and also important for the next generation of Internet.

The benefits of IPv6

Compared with IPv4, the latest internet version IPv6 not only provides a vastly larger pool of available IP addresses, but also offers a lot of new services, such as privacy, higher security, Built-in multicasting, New QoS (Quality of Service), which brings superior usability and improved user experiences.

Support List

Some of the following TP-Link products are now compliant with IPv6 by default or on their latest hardware/firmware. Customers can download the firmware from the TP-Link website and update accordingly.

Note:

  1.  For the product that we don’t indicate which hardware version supports IPv6, it supports IPv6 since V1 version and also the later hardware versions.
  2.  For the product that we indicate it supports IPv6 since a certain hardware version such as TL-WR1043ND_V3, its V1 and V2 both don’t support IPv6.
  3. It’s suggested that you upgrade the latest firmware version if the current firmware of the product lists below doesn’t support IPv6: support/download/

Frequently Asked Questions

(1) How do I Know which device supports IPv6?

For TP-Link devices, you can refer to our website to see if your product or a product you are interested in supports IPv6.

If the device has the “IPv6 Ready” logo, you can rest assured that it has IPv6 support.  The “IPv6 Ready” Logo certification is promulgated by the IPv6 Forum, a non-profit organization focused on IPv6 conformance and interoperability. TP-Link is a member of the IPv6 Ready Logo Program.

For more information about IPv6 Ready Logo, please access the website: https://www.ipv6ready.org/

(2) Will older TP-Link routers like TL-WR340GD support IPv6 in the future?

Because older TP-Link routers don’t have sufficient storage and memory space for the new IPv6 stack, we don’t have plans to have IPv6 supported in the wireless-G or wireless-B routers. To benefit from the advances of the IPv6 technology, TP-Link sincerely recommends one of our high-performance and IPv6 Ready routers to consumers.

(3) Which IPv6 features are supported by TP-Link routers?

The routers listed above support IPv6 features (such as DHCP, Static, PPPoE and 6to4) which are applied by Internet Service Providers. In the meantime, we are actively researching and developing more transition mechanism technologies step-by-step according to the requirements of customers.

TP-Link will keep making effort to optimize the compatibility for IPv6 service all over the world, if you suffer some trouble with our product in your own IPv6 network, please feel free to contact our technical support, your feedback will be highly appreciated.
