Q1: Is my TP-Link (Modem) router compatible with NBN?

Please check NBN Compatible Device Checker and find out whether your TP-Link device is NBN compatible.

Q2: What are common NBN technologies and Scenarios?

1). Fibre to the premises/home (FTTP/FTTH);

2). Fibre to the curb (FTTC);

3). Hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC);

4). Fibre to the building (FTTB);

5). Fibre to the node (FTTN);

Scenarios:

1). FTTP/FTTH: Fibre Optic Cable___ NBN Box----Ethernet cable---- (Modem) Router (VLAN ID)

FTTP_FTTH (1)

NOTE: VLAN ID means your ISP line may require a VLAN ID (=VID) to get Internet.

Please check with your Internet provider whether they use a VLAN ID.

2). FTTC: NBN Telephone cable___ NBN box----Ethernet cable ---- (Modem) Router (VLAN ID)

FTTP_FTTH (1)

NOTE: VLAN ID means your ISP line may require a VLAN ID (=VID) to get Internet.

Please check with your Internet provider whether they use a VLAN ID.

3). HFC: Coaxial Cable ___NBN box----Ethernet cable ---- (Modem) Router (VLAN ID)

NOTE: VLAN ID means your ISP line may require a VLAN ID (=VID) to get Internet.

Please check with your Internet provider whether they use a VLAN ID.

4). FTTB/ FTTN: VDSL line----Telephone cable----VDSL2 Modem Router

Q3: What is Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) in New Zealand?

Ultra-fast broadband (UFB) uses fibre optic technology to provide and voice and broadband connection which is similar to FTTP. UFC normally uses VLAN ID 10.

UFC: Fibre Optic Cable___ ONT (Optical Modem) ---Ethernet cable---- (Modem) Router (VLAN ID 10)

Q4: I will have an NBN connection in my house, which product should I purchase?

Confirm with your ISP whether you will have an NBN box/ Ethernet cable/ VDSL line in your house:

1). I will have an NBN box in the house: choose an FTTP/FTTC/HFC compatible Router or Modem router by clicking here.

2). I will have an Ethernet cable from the wall: choose an FTTP/FTTC/HFC compatible Router or Modem router by clicking here.

3). I will have a VDSL line in the house: choose a VDSL product by clicking here.

Q5: How to set up my Modem with an NBN connection?

1). I have an NBN box/ Ethernet cable in the house:

Archer VR- Series Modem: please click here.

TD- / Archer D- Series Modem: please click here.

NOTE: For NBN box/ Ethernet connection, if your ISP line requires a VLAN ID, some Modem may be not compatible, please contact support for detailed information.

2). I have a VDSL line in the house:

Archer VR series: Follow Quick Installation Guide and go through Quick Setup. Here takes QIG of VR600 as an example.

TD-W9970/TD-W9980: please refer to this instruction.

Q6: Where to get the configuration information to set up an NBN connection?

Please confirm configuration information with your ISP (Internet service provider).

Q7: Why some products are not working with NBN even with "NBN ready" logo printed on the package?

Before NBN service was bound with an NBN box. "NBN ready" logo printed on TP-Link products meant devices could work with NBN service providers (NBN Box, no VLAN id).

But in recent years NBN providers upgraded their NBN lines and started to provide different NBN services like VDSL and Ethernet connections. TP-Link has updated the new package design to accommodate this change. While there may be still some products with old logo in the market, which may not be compatible with the current NBN connections.

For example, an ADSL model router previously printed with "NBN ready" cannot work with a VDSL service line.

Q8: What should I do if my TP-Link router does not work with the NBN box?

Please troubleshoot as this instruction.
