TP-Link Smart/Managed Switches support Dual Image. The switch stores two images. One image is set as the next start up image, and the other is set as the backup image.
- After you upgrade a firmware, the switch will automatically map the firmware file to the backup image.
- When the switch reboots, it will try to start up with the next startup image.
- When the switch fails to start up with the next startup image, it will try to start up with the backup image.
Follow these steps to configure backup image when upgrading a firmware:
Step1
Choose the menu SYSTEM > System Tools > Firmware Upgrade to load the following page. Click Browse.
Step 2
In the pop-up window, enter the path of the firmware file in the address bar and select the desired firmware file. Click Open.
Note: The new firmware file will be mapped to the backup image after upgrading is completed. The next steps depend on what you wish to do.
▷ If you wish to use the backup image immediately after upgrading, do the next step:
Step 3
In the following page, check Reboot the switch using the backup image after upgrading is completed. Click Upgrade.
▷ If you wish to keep the current image after upgrading and configure to reboot with the backup image manually, follow these steps:
Step 3
In the following page, uncheck Reboot the switch using the backup image after upgrading is completed. Click Upgrade.
Note: It will take several minutes to upgrade the firmware. Wait without any operation.
Step 4
Choose the menu SYSTEM > System Tools > Boot Config to load the following page. The image table shows that the next startup image is image 1, and the backup image is image 2. The firmware has been upgraded, so the firmware file is now mapped to image 2. If you keep this boot configuration, the switch will start up with image 1 when the switch reboots, thus the firmware upgrading will not take effect.
Step 5
If you want to configure the switch to start up with the new firmware, configure the next startup image as Image_2.bin and backup image as Image_1.bin. Click Apply.
Step 6
Choose the menu SYSTEM > System Tools > System Reboot > System Reboot to load the following page. Check Save the current configuration before reboot. Click Reboot. When the switch reboots, it will start up with the image that is mapped to the new firmware. If this fails, the switch will start up with the current image.
Note: It will take several minutes to reboot the switch. Wait without any operation.
