Objective

This article introduces how to eliminate the WAN IP address Obtaining Failed alert via Omada Controller.

Requirements

  • Omada Gateway series
  • Omada Software Controller / Hardware Controller / Cloud-Based Controller

Introduction

If WAN parameters are set improperly, the gateway will not obtain a WAN IP address, and the WAN IP address Obtaining Failed alert will appear.

For example, the default WAN port of the ER8411 V1.0 is WAN/LAN4. If the connection parameters are wrong, the gateway cannot connect to the ISP’s server to get a WAN IP address.

The WAN IP address Obtaining Failed log shows in the list of unresolved logs. The Content is "[Failed] {MAC Address} failed to obtain the IP address for WAN/LAN4 because no response from the server.”

Configuration

Eliminate the WAN IP address Obtaining Failed alert by taking the following steps:

Step 1. Go to Settings > Wired Networks > Internet > WAN Ports Config and click Edit.

Go to Settings > Wired Networks > Internet > WAN Ports Config, choose port WAN/LAN4 and click Edit in ACTION column.

Connection Type that suits your needs and enters the dial-up information provided by your ISP. There are five types of connections:

  • L2TP: Select L2TP if your ISP provides you with an L2TP account.
  • PPTP: Select PPTP if your ISP provides you with a PPTP account.

To configure MAC Address, choose Customize MAC Address or Use Default MAC Address (default option):

  • Use Default MAC Address: Choose this option to use the default MAC address so that the WAN port of the gateway can connect to the internet. This option is recommended unless required otherwise.

In Settings of WAN/LAN4, choose Connection Type as Dynamic IP.

Take PPPoE as an example. First, select PPPoE for Connection Type, fill in your Username and Password, and click Apply to save your configuration.

Select PPPoE for Connection Type, fill in Username and Password, and click Apply.
