How to configure TD-W8960N's LAN port work as WAN port(TD-W8960N work with cable modem)

If you have a cable modem broadband service and you still want to use TD-W8960N as a pure wireless router, you can follow the steps below to configure one of the LAN ports working as the WAN port (We call it "EWAN"---Ethernet WAN).

In the configuration below, we will take Number 1 LAN Port as an example.

Step 1

Connect your computer to either of number 2/3/4 port and power on TD-W8960N.

Step 2

Open the web browser on your computer and type the IP address of TD-W8960N in the address bar (default is 192.168.1.1). Press Enter.

Step 3

Type the username and password in the login page, the default username and password both are admin, click OK to login to the management page.

Step 4

Click Advanced Setup->LAN Ports. Check Enable virtual ports on LAN (1-4) and click Save/Apply.

Step 5

Click Advanced Setup->Layer2 Interface->ETH Interface, then click Add.

Step 6

Select an ETH Port as eth0.5/LAN1 and check Default Mode, then click Apply/Save.

Step 7

Click Advanced Setup->WAN Service, and then Remove all the Interface below.

Step 8

Click Add.

Step 9

Click Next.

Step 10

Check IP over Ethernet and then click Next.

Step 11

Click Next.

Step 12

Check Enable NAT and click Next.

Step 13

Select ipoe_eth0.5/eth0.5 and click Next.

Step 14

Click Next.

Step 15

Click Next until Apply/Save.

Congratulations! Until now, you have finished the EWAN configuration.

If you want to configure TD-W8960N to work with your Cable Modem , you may need some extra settings (MAC Clone). Please follow the following steps to configure your TD-W8960N.

Step 1

Please connect your original computer which used to be connected with your cable modem to either of number 2/3/4 LAN port on TD-W8960N. Then please connect the Number 1 Port on TD-W8960N to the cable modem.

Step 2

Click Advanced Setup->MAC Clone, select eth0.5 -> click Clone ->Save/Apply.

Step 3

Please REBOOT the Cable modem and the TD-W8960N. ( Very Important ! )

Step 4

Click Device Info->WAN, if you see TD-W8960N already obtained the IP address from your cable modem, that means all the configuration were successfully and you can enjoy Internet now.
