Frequently Asked Questions about KE100 KIT
Q1: How to Install Kasa Smart Thermostatic Radiator Valve KE100?
You may install the Kasa Smart Thermostatic Radiator Valve by following the steps listed in the following instruction.
How to Install Kasa Smart Thermostatic Radiator Valve
Q2: Can KE100 work without a KASA hub?
No, KE100 needs to work with the KH100 hub so that you can manage/control it via KASA APP.
Q3: Does KE100 support open window detection?
Yes. However, the KE100 currently only supports working with Tapo T110 (additional purchase required).
With the Open Window Detection feature, it will send you notifications, automatically turn off the heating, and activate Frost Protection when an open window/door is detected. Once the window/door is closed, it will resume heating automatically.
Please note that for the Open Window Detection feature to work, the sensor must be online and bound to the same hub KH100 as the KE100 in KASA APP.
Q4: Does KE100KIT support 5Ghz WLAN?
KE100 connects to front-end Hub KH100 through a Sub-G wireless signal. KH100 can only connect to the router through 2.4GHz WLAN.
Q5: What types of valve adapters does KE100 include?
1× RA adapter 1× RAV adapter 1× RAVL adapter
KE100 fits on most radiator valve body thread (M30x1.5) and the three adapters(RA, RAV & RAVL) included allow more compatibility.
Q6: Is KE100 compatible with both thermostatic and Manual valve types?
Kasa Smart Thermostatic Radiator Valve is only compatible with the thermostatic valve.
Q7: How does smart control of KE100 work?
You can refer to the following FAQ to get detailed instructions:
How does KE100’s Smart Control work?
Q8: Is the KE100 Zigbee or Z-wave supported?
KE100 supports Sub-G protocol which needs to work with KASA hub KH100. It doesn't support Zigbee or Z-Wave protocol.
Q9: To ensure good performance of KE100, what's the maximum distance between KE100 and the hub?
With three walls in between, the KE100 and hub can be separated by a maximum of around 45 meters. Please be aware that the real distance is influenced by the use environment. Wireless interference at home, the thickness of the wall, the location of the hub, and other factors may affect the real distance that the KE100 can receive the signal from the hub.
Q10: Does the KE100 Kit work with Alexa or Google Assistant?
Yes, you can follow up on the below instructions to set up the Kasa Smart Thermostatic Radiator Valve with Alexa and Google Assistant.

How to connect your TP-Link Kasa devices to Google Home
Q11: Does KE100 support HomeAssistant?
No, KE100 doesn’t support HomeAssistant.
Q12: Can the KH100 hub control multiple KE100s? If yes, how many KE100s can I add to the KH100 hub?
yes, each Hub can connect and manage up to 32 radiators.
Q13: What kind of battery does KE100 use? How long do the batteries used in the KE100 last?
3.0V DC (2 × AA/LR6 batteries included)
Note:
- Do NOT use rechargeable batteries or 1.2V AA.
- AA/LR6 Alkaline batteries are recommended.
Generally, the battery life of the KE100 can be over 1 year. But the frequency of use and the environment in which it is operated will both affect how long it will last.
Q14: Can I control KE100 with Tapo APP?
KE100 can be controlled via KASA APP currently. You can control the TRV to adjust the temperature through the KASA APP, and you can also query the temperature records for a period of time.
Q15: Why the room temperature (Current Temperature) displayed in the APP can be different from the actual room temperature, and what should I do?
The temperature sensed by the temperature sensor of the KE100 is actually the temperature of the water pipe, there is a difference between real room temperature and the water pipe temperature.
To make the Current Temperature closer to the real room temperature, setting up' Temperature Offset' should match your preference.
Displayed Current Temperature=Detected Temperature+Offset.
Q16: What should I do if the display shows or ?
You can refer to the following FAQ to get detailed instructions:
Kasa Smart Thermostatic Radiator Valve KE100 Display Shows E1/E2 Error code
Q17: Why CAN’T I control my radiator valve?
- If the display shows or , please refer to Q12 and Q13.
- If the display shows , then the battery power is running low and the valve can’t work properly. Please replace the batteries.
- If the problem persists, please contact TP-Link technical support.
Q18: What should I do if KE100 Kit shows offline on KASA APP frequently?
- Ensure that the hub and sub-device have been upgraded to the latest version of firmware and confirm that the APP has been upgraded to the latest version of the APP.
- Confirm whether other Tapo or Kasa devices in the same network are working normally.
- If possible, Try to move the KH100 to a location closer to the router or closer to the KE100, and then check whether the same problem still exists.
- If the problem persists, please contact TP-Link technical support.
Q19: Can the radiator valve continue to work if there is no wireless connection or no internet access?
- You can still manage the valve in the Kasa Smart app as long as your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the valve.
- Manual control still works. You can rotate the control knob to adjust the temperature.
- The schedules you have set will still activate as long as the connected hub works properly.
Q20: How can I reset the radiator valve?
- Remove the cover of the valve, then use the cover-opener to press and hold the SYNC/RESET button for at least 5 seconds to reset the valve.
- Open the Kasa Smart app, then remove the valve on the Home page or in Device Settings. The valve will reset automatically.
Q21: Can KE100 work with external temperature sensors?
Yes. The KE100 has a built-in temperature sensor, but you can also add a Tapo temperature sensor to it for temperature correction. A separate temperature sensor can be placed anywhere in the room to measure the ambient temperature, and Kasa Smart Valve KE100 can be set to regulate the temperature according to the information provided by the Tapo temperature sensor, ensuring that the area of your concern is always at the right temperature - not too hot and not too cold.
KE100 currently supports Tapo T310 and Tapo T315 temperature sensors. Temperature sensors need to be purchased separately.
You can follow the instructions below to add external temperature sensors for your KE100.
Note: Only the sensors that are online and bound to the same hub as your KE100 can be used as detection sensors.
Step 1: Directly connect your Tapo sensor to your Kasa smart hub KH100 in the Kasa Smart app. No need to get one extra Tapo hub.
Step 2: Go to the Device Settings page of KE100. Set temperature correction based on the designated sensor.
Q22: Can KE100 save energy use?
Yes. KE100 can help you save energy without sacrificing comfort by setting different temperatures for different rooms according to your heating schedule, and automatically pausing heating when an open window is detected or when you leave home.
Q23: How many KE100 devices can be added to a Group in the Kasa APP?
Up to 10 KE100 devices can be added in one Group.
Note: The KE100 and other devices such as switches, bulbs, etc., cannot be added to the same group, because functions such as group temperature setting, and group heating scheduling are specifically designed for the TRV KE100 and heating groups.
Q24: Can my KE100 work with the Geofencing feature?
Yes, you can set Smart Actions to control your KE100 with the free Geofencing feature.
You can also choose an Effective Radius from 100m(328 ft) to 2000m(1.24 miles).
