How to configure MLO SSID of AP on Omada Controller
Contents
This article introduces how to configure MLO SSID of AP on Omada Controller.
- Omada Software Controller / Hardware Controller / Cloud Based Controller (v5.13.30 and above).
- Omada AP: All Wi-Fi 7 products support the MLO feature, (Such as EAP783, EAP773, EAP772, AP9778)
- Wireless clients which support MLO, such as Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Xiaomi 13 Pro, and Google Pixel 8 Pro.
Multi-Link Operation (MLO) is one of the most important features in the Wi-Fi 7 protocol. Compared to Wi-Fi 6, the biggest improvement of MLO is to allow a single client device to simultaneously connect to multiple Wi-Fi bands, thereby achieving higher throughput and lower latency.
Currently, Omada APs support 2.4 GHz/5 GHz/6 GHz frequency bands, and MLO feature supports four combinations: 2.4 GHz+5 GHz, 5 GHz+6 GHz, 2.4 GHz+6 GHz, and 2.4 GHz+5 GHz+6 GHz. You can choose the appropriate combination according to your need. This article takes EAP783 as an example to explain how to configure an MLO SSID with 2.4GHz + 5GHz.
Note: Some EAPs may not support all MLO combinations, e.g. EAP772/773 do not support 2.4G MLO.
Step 1. Login in Controller via a browser, go to Settings > Wireless Networks > WLAN.
Step 2. Click Create New Wireless Network, and then create a new SSID with 2.4GHz and 5GHz band both enabled. (Please enable the related bands according to your own need for the MLO SSID).
Step 3. Click Advanced Settings to enable MLO, then click the Apply button. The configuration is now complete.
After completing the entire configuration, please connect a mobile device that supports MLO feature to the MLO SSID, then you can see in the Clients page on the Controller that this client is connected to the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously. Take Xiaomi 13 Pro as an example here:
The content above is the complete configuration and verification process, now we can use MLO function normally.
Get to know more details of each function and configuration please go to Download Center to download the manual of your product.
Why does my phone only connect to a single band after I configured the MLO SSID?
Re: MLO is a new feature of Wi-Fi 7, which is currently supported by a small number of clients. Only when the client supports MLO can it be connected to multiple bands of the MLO SSID.
