Note: you will need a microSD card to upgrade your Tapo Camera in this way.

Please follow steps below to upgrade the firmware of your Tapo Camera:

If you can visit the camera in the Tapo APP (Recommended):

1. Format your MicroSD card in Tapo APP > Device Settings > Storage & Recording > Local Storage.

2. Remove the SD card after format successfully, delete all the files inside the SD card. Copy and paste the ‘factory_up_boot.bin’ file from the downloaded folder to the microSD card.

3. Ensure the Tapo Camera is powered on, then insert the microSD card into the camera.

4. Power off the camera and wait for a few seconds, then power it back on.

5. Wait patiently and you will see the system LED is changing from red to blinking green quickly then becomes solid green, which means the upgrade succeeds.

6. Wait for a few seconds more and pull out the microSD card from the camera.

7. Power off the camera again and wait for a few seconds, then power it back on.

If you want to continue using the SD card later:

8. Format the microSD card again on the computer. Repeat step 1. and make sure the ‘factory_up_boot.bin’ file is deleted. If not, delete it manually.

9. Insert the microSD card back into the camera and power off then on the camera again, format the microSD card via the camera APP (ensure its status is good), and check if everything will be good now.

If you cannot visit the camera in Tapo APP:

1. Format your MicroSD card through a computer with the ‘Panasonic SDFormatter.exe’. Insert the microSD card into your computer (with an SD card reader), then run the ‘Panasonic SDFormatter.exe’ to format it. The SDFormatter.exe will automatically detect the microSD card inserted, just click on Format and ensure it is formatted successfully.
