This FAQ describes the steps for firmware downgrade steps in both standalone and controller mode when EAP is behaving abnormally after the firmware update.

The firmware downgrade shares the same process as the upgrade. The downgrade and upgrade of the firmware will not erase the settings on your EAP. But, if you leap too many versions, there is a possibility that your settings will be lost.

Scenario 1:

When EAP is working in standalone mode:

  1. There are two ways to log into the EAP:

#1 Wired. Connect your computer to the same network by an Ethernet cable to the same network. Find the DHCP IP of the EAP on your router. Usually, it is in the LAN settings > DHCP Client or Overview > Client.

#2 Wireless. Connect your computer to EAP’s WiFi. Use the domain www.tplinkeap.net or the IP address of the EAP to log into your EAP. Make sure the computer is stationary and forget other remembered Wi-Fi to avoid WiFi switching to interrupt the downgrade.

Yet, we highly recommend downgrading your EAP via a wired connection.

**If you have trouble accessing the page, please use Incognito Mode (Chrome) or Private Browsing (Firefox) and double-check your connection.

**If your computer supports both wireless and wired connections, please disable one of them. Choose one connection to access the interface. A wired connection is preferred.

  1. Access the web management interface of the EAP. Click System and Firmware Update.

Click Browse and look for the firmware that you are going to downgrade. Select and Open it. The file will be uploaded to the EAP. (Note: you have to unzip/extract your firmware from the downloaded file)

Path: System > Firmware Update > Browse > Select and Open BIN file > Update

During the upgrade, please do not unplug the power cable or Ethernet cable on the EAP. Do not refresh the web page.

Scenario 2:

When EAP is adopted by the Omada Controller:

Sometimes, your EAP cannot be adopted by the Omada Controller, please refer to Scenario 1 to downgrade in standalone mode. (If your EAP is not managed by the Omada Controller somehow, please access the EAP in standalone. If necessary, you can reset the EAP and perform the downgrade like Scenario 1. WiFi settings are saved on your Controller, a reset won’t affect anything)

  1. Launch the Omada Controller and click Devices > tap on EAP245 > Config

  1. On the page of Config, scroll down and find the Manage Device section. In Custom Upgrade, click Browse to look for the firmware that you are going to downgrade. Select and Open the BIN file. (Note: you have to unzip/extract your firmware from the downloaded file)

Path: Config > Manage Device > Custom Upgrade > Browse > Select and Open EAP***_v*_*.*.*.bin (Type of the firmware is BIN File)

During the upgrade, please do not unplug the power cable or Ethernet cable on the EAP. Do not refresh the web page.

  1. During the upgrade, please keep access to the Omada Controller and stay on the same web interface. Do not unplug any power or Ethernet cable of your EAP or Omada Controller during the upgrade.

If your EAP status shows on Mesh , it is highly recommended to wire the EAP to the router or switch and use wired access when performing the downgrade.
