Whether it's a large apartment, a multi-story single-family house, or a spacious garden - sometimes the radio network of the TP-Link DSL modem router alone is not enough to seamlessly cover every corner of the home with Wi-Fi. But not only long distances but also impermeable walls and radio-interfering materials can cause in some rooms only little or nothing of the Wi-Fi signal arrive.

To be able to surf, stream, and play games anywhere at top speed in such an environment, simply add an additional TP-Link product with Mesh function, such as TP-Link Range Extender or TP-Link Powerline Extender. TP-Link DSL modem router supports 2 mesh technologies, OneMesh and EasyMesh. This FAQ focuses on the difference between the 2 technologies and how to create mesh network with DSL modem router.

OneMesh™

The OneMesh™ is a trademark for all TP-Link SOHO products which can support mesh network, including Wi-Fi Routers, DSL Modem Routers, 3G/4G Router, Range Extenders, and Powerline Adapters, .etc. OneMesh™ intelligently connects mobile devices to your router or extenders, whichever provides the best connection.

You can check TP-Link OneMesh Compatible Devices to find out which TP-Link xDSL modem routers, Range Extenders and Powerline Extedners support OneMesh™.

EasyMesh

EasyMesh is a standard certification launched by the Wi-Fi Alliance, which brings a standards-based approach to multiple AP networks. It is a basic standard that defines the protocol for the interconnectivity between different APs. Wi-Fi EasyMesh networks use a common standard that allows devices from multiple vendors to be onboard, configured, and able to communicate with each other. This brings flexibility, enabling devices from different vendors to work together to increase capacity and effective throughput by forming a smart and adaptable network. Not to mention, these networks are easy to set up and maintain. All can be self-organized to provide consistent coverage anywhere in a home, office, or outdoor space. You can click TP-Link EasyMesh Compatible Devices to find out which TP-Link xDSL modem routers and Range Extenders support EasyMesh.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I use TP-Link EasyMesh products together with TP-Link OneMesh or Deco Mesh products?

Answer: Yes and No. Wi-Fi EasyMesh, TP-Link OneMesh™, and Deco Mesh are three different mesh Wi-Fi solutions provided by TP-Link. You cannot build a mesh network by mixing TP-Link OneMesh™ routers/extenders with Deco Mesh, but you can build up a mesh system with TP-Link EasyMesh and OneMesh™ devices. In other words, you can still build up a mesh network if you have “EasyMesh router + Onemesh extender” or “OneMesh router + EasyMesh extender”.

Note: TP-Link DSL modem routers that support EasyMesh, such as the Archer VX1800v, cannot establish a mesh network with powerline adapters, range extenders, and routers that only support OneMesh™.

2. Can I use TP-Link EasyMesh devices with EasyMesh products from different manufacturers or companies? Are they compatible?

Answer: Theoretically, TP-Link EasyMesh will work with any EasyMesh-certified products due to the standardized EasyMesh technology. However, EasyMesh networking methods can vary based on the manufacturers, we highly recommend using TP-Link EasyMesh products together to ensure the best performance and full compatibility.

3. Can the TP-Link OneMesh™ products build a Mesh network with other brand products?

Answer: No. TP-Link OneMesh™ is TP-Link private Mesh technology and can only build Mesh network with other TP-Link OneMesh™ products.
