How to set up Deco M4 mesh Wi-Fi network(For TM unifi user only)

Note: This FAQ is mainly used to guide the users of TM Unifi. If you are not a user of TM Unifi, please refer to FAQ2464.

Step 1: Please refer to the below picture and connect your first Deco M4 unit (main unit) to the LAN port of the Unifi’s router, while the second unit can be placed anywhere at the home.

Step 2: The Deco can only be set up through the Deco app, which is available on Android and iOS. So, before you start, you should download the Deco app first.

Step 3: Launch the Deco app on your phone.

Step 4: Tab “Sing Up” to set up a TP-Link ID.

Note: If you already have a TP-Link ID, you can log in directly with your account.

Step 5: Login and begin set up. Once your TP-Link account is created and verified, you will be able to setup your Deco Mesh Wi-Fi.

Step 6: Identify your Deco. Here we select “M4/E4/W2400/M3/E3/AC1200”.

Step 7: Deco app will guide you to configure the Deco unit. Here you should ignore the instructions and just click “Next”.

Note: Please make sure one of your Deco units is turned on and connected to the LAN port of your TM Unifi router.

Step 8: Check the Internet’s light on router and ensure it is active / on. Then click “INTERNER LED IS STABLE”.

Step 9: You have power on your Deco M4 and connect it to the TM Unifi router, so the LED of the Deco M4 should be pulsing blue. Just click “DECO’s LED IS PULSING BLUE.

Note: If the LED is not pulsing blue, press the RESET button at the bottom of the unit for one second, the LED will turn to yellow. Just wait for about 2 minutes until the LED turn to pulsing blue and go on.

Step 10: (1) Now you will see that your Deco app is looking for the Deco unit.

(2) At this point, the Deco app will request you to connect to the WiFi network of the Deco M4. The default WiFi name of the Deco M4 is labeled below the unit.

(3) Navigate to the setting screen of your phone and connect to the WiFi name of the Deco M4. Once you are done, navigate back to the Deco app. The process is the same for an IOS device. Click “I Have Connected” once you are back to the app.

Step 11: Select Location where you put your Deco main unit. i.e: Living room

Step 12: Select Dynamic IP and click “Next”.

Note: Ignore the VLAN Settings as this time we are configure the Deco M4 as access point and usually the VLAN Settings had been default configured on Unifi Router.

Step 13: Create your Wi-Fi network name & Wi-Fi password, and then click “Next”.

Step 14: Connect to your new Deco Wi-Fi network and click “Next”.

Step 15: Main unit setup successful and ready to use.

Add second unit to the Deco network:

Step 16: Select Deco Model and choose “M4/E4/W2400/M3/E3/AC1200”.

Step 17: Find a suitable spot. Select the Floor number if this second unit put at the different floor at your home. Else, select 1 floor as default if both unit place at same floor level and Next.

Step 18: Follow the steps as you set the first unit, then you will be successful to setup the second unit.
