The Tapo/Kasa plug is designed to support resistive loads such as heaters, kettles, and electric irons.
However, it doesn’t support high-power inductive loads driven by motors, like air conditioners, refrigerators, or washing machines. These devices often draw a high inrush current at startup, which can exceed the plug’s rated current and potentially cause damage, affecting the warranty.
Here is an example for your reference:
Suppose your plug has a maximum load capacity of 16A, 3680W, 1/6HP, then it can safely handle a heater whose rated power is below 3680W, but it CANNOT be used with a 1500W (2HP) air conditioner whose power has exceeded 1/6HP.
We recommend checking the motor’s horsepower rating of your motor-driven load before you use it with the Tapo/Kasa smart plug. Ensure the load power doesn’t exceed the plug’s load capacity.
If you want to know how much is the max load supported by your Tapo devices, please go to TP-Link official website: https://www.tp-link.com/ > Click the 'Search' icon > Search the model of your device > Click Specifications > Maximum load.
Note:
1. *Power Adapters/USB Chargers under 75W do not support PFC (Power Factor Correction), while PFC can reduce the inrush starting current generated at the moment the relay is turned on. Therefore, using a 60-75W Power Adapter/USB Charger may damage the device due to excessive current.
2. EV charging is not supported since it typically has a higher power and the charging current required exceeds the rated current of the plug.
3. It's Not recommended to connect the plug to the power strip for powering on multiple load devices.
