TP-Link DSL Modem is a combine machine of Modem and Wi-Fi router. TP-Link DSL Modem needs to work on Modem router mode if the internet service delivered to the TP-Link modem is through DSL line like Pic 1, or it needs to work on wireless router mode if internet service delivered to the TP-Link DSL mode is through Ethernet cable like Pic 2.

Guide for Setting up DSL Modem Router Mode

Here takes Archer VR2100V as a demonstration.

1. Connect your DSL line to TP-Link modem router’s DSL port.

2. Wait about 5 min till the DSL light solid on the modem router. Please try to reset the modem or contact your ISP to check line issue if the DSL light is not solid on.

3. Access the web management page

Type http://tplinkmodem.net in the address bar. It's recommended to use Firefox, Chrome, and Edge. To get some help, please refer to How to log into the web-based interface of the AC VDSL/ADSL Modem Router (new logo)?

4. Create a password to manage your modem router. If it asks you to enter username and password, please enter “admin” for both of them.

5. Select your region and time zone.

6. Select your ISP from the ISP List or select “Other” if you can't find your ISP.

7. Enter the Internet connection information needed, included L2 Interface type, VLAN ID, Internet connection type, which all need to be confirmed with your ISP.

The Common connection types of regular ISPs we collected is for reference only.

If your connection type is PPPOE, enter the username and password provided by your ISP

If you have VLAN ID from ISP, enable VLAN and enter ID.

8. Customize Wireless Network of TP-Link DSL modem router.

9. Confirm and apply your settings, and wait for the router to test the internet connection.

10. Wait about 1-3 minutes. Check the Internet light on the Archer VR2100v. Then check the internet connection.

Guide for Setting up the Wireless Router Mode

  1. Power on your DSL modem router, and wire the Ethernet cable to the LAN4/WAN port of the modem router, from the existing modem, or NBN box, or the Ethernet jack on the wall.

2. Access the web management page

4. Select your region and time zone.

5. Exit the Quick Setup and go to Advanced> Operation mode, select the Wireless Router Mode, and click Save. The modem router will reboot.

6. Enter the password you created to log in again.

7. Go to Advanced > Network > Internet, click on “Delete all” and then click on “add”.

8. Fill in Internet parameters included connection type and VLAN ID if needed by ISP, which all need to be confirmed with your ISP.

The Common connection types of regular ISPs we collected is for reference only.

For connection type: you may choose Dynamic IP when the TP-Link modem wired to a main router like Pic 1, or you are suggested to confirm with ISP if your TP-Link Modem is wired to ISP directly like Pic 2.

If your connection type is PPPoE, enter PPPoE Username and Password provided by Internet service provider:

If you have VLAN ID, enable VLAN tag and enter ID number:

  1. Wait about 3-5 minutes till the Internet LED solid on the Archer VR2100v, then check the internet connection.
