Part2Troubleshooting on Range Extender

Q2.1:Why I can't see my extender's network after configuration?

A: The default TP-Link Extender or TP-Link Extender_XXXX name is for configuration. Once we set the extender up, it will have a new Wi-Fi name. For some models, they have the same Wi-Fi name as your existing Wi-Fi name. For the others, _EXT will be added at the end of your existing Wi-Fi name. But you can always create your own new Wi-Fi name.

For example, if your existing Wi-Fi name is ABCD, after configuration, the possible extended network names may be ABCD, ABCD_EXT, ABCD_EXT_5G or the one you create by yourself.

If you want to change the extended network name, please refer to this FAQ:

Part3: Other questions about Range Extender

Q3.1:Can the range extender work with a non-TP-Link router/access point?

A: Yes.

Q3.2:Do I need to reconfigure the range extender when relocating it?

A: No. The settings have been stored into the extender, a normal restart will not delete the settings and there is no need to reconfigure it.

Please reconfigure it when the host Wi-Fi network settings have been changed or the range extender has been reset to the factory defaults.

Q3.3: Do I need to reconfigure the range extender when I change the router or change the router’s Wi-Fi settings?

A: Yes.

Q3.4: Can I change the extender's Wi-Fi name

A: Yes, we can change the extended Wi-Fi name to whatever we like. Click here to check the instructions to change it via the web management page. And click here to check the instructions for Tether APP.

Q3.5: Can I have a different Wi-Fi password on the extender?

A: No. The extender copies the Wi-Fi password from your host Wi-Fi network. If you'd like to have a different Wi-Fi password, please change it on your host router/access point, then reconfigure the range extender.

Q3.6 Can I use more than 1 range extender in the house? Can I connect a wifi extender to another wifi extender?

A.Yes, we recommend having 1-2 range extenders in one network for better performance.

It is not very recommended wirelessly connecting one range extender to another for the performance of the second extender.

Recommended topology: If you have more than one range extender, please make sure that the range extenders are both connecting to the host router's Wi-Fi network directly.

Other network topologies: or you could wire one of the Range Extenders to the front end(router or RE1) and use it in AP mode for best performance .This requires one of the range extender supports AP mode.

Our OneMesh compatible range extender support to create a mesh with TP-Link Router.

Q3.10: Can I copy the wireless settings of the repeater with my router?

Yes

Q3.11: Can I create mesh connection with TP-Link repeater and Fritzbox?
