How to install The Kasa Smart KD110 Doorbell

Before You Start:

Compatibility:

  • Your existing doorbell cannot be battery powered. It must be wired and powered by a 16-24 VAC transformer.
  • Your existing doorbell button must be a stand-alone momentary push button. Integrated intercoms, gate and entry control systems are likely incompatible.
  • The Kasa doorbell works with both single and dual doorbell chimes. However, it can only be connected to one at a time.

Tools you may need:

Non-Contact Voltage Tester, Philips and Flathead screwdrivers, Plyers

The Doorbell part physically wires to the wires of the existing doorbell to get power, which is designed to replace an existing doorbell button

The Wireless Chime of the doorbell needs to be plugged into a power socket.

Installing the Doorbell

Step 1: Installing a memory card (optional)

If you are planning to use the 24/7 recording feature then you will need to install a memory card. The KD110 can accept MicroSD memory cards up to 128 GB. To install remove the cover and insert the card label facing out. Once inserted, secure cover with the provided screws. *This slot is spring loaded for easy removal.

Step 2: Check the wireless signal strength

Using your mobile device go to your doorbell and check the wireless signal strength at the location. You will want a usable signal at the location in order for the KD110 to properly function. *Note: Your mobile device must be connected to your home network during this step.

Step 3: Test the current doorbell’s function

Before you install the KD110 you will want to test the existing doorbell to ensure proper function.

Step 4: Locate the existing chime

Locate the existing doorbell’s chime.

Step 5: Turn off power

Locate your home’s breaker panel and shut off the breaker that powers the doorbell

Step 6: Choose your type of chime

Remove the Chime cover and determine which type you have

Step 7A: Mechanical with two wires

Choose your doorbell type

Integrated or intercom style doorbell

If you have an integrated or intercom style doorbell the KD110 cannot be installed.

Step 8A: Choosing no visible screws or one or more visible screws

Take a picture of how the current chime is wired for later reference

Step 9A: Install the Jumper

Install the jumper as seen here connecting the Trans and Front terminals.

Note: Don‘t skip installing the jumper or that may lead to some issues, for instance, the old chime rings itself without pressing the button on the smart doorbell.

Step 10A: Remove the Doorbell

No screw doorbells can be popped off by prying it off with a screwdriver. 1 & 2 screw doorbells can be removed just

Step 11A: Drill the plot holes

Use the provided paper template to mark and drill (if needed) the plot holes for the KD110.

Step 12A: Install the KD110 mount

You will not want to install the KD110’s mount. If you decide to use the provided angle wedge you will place that in behind the mount. The mount should be installed with the arrows facing up.

Step 13A: Connect the KD110 to your house wiring

The KD110 does not have positive and negative post so the house wires can be connected to either post.

*Note: If your house wires are too short you can use the provided pigtails and wire nuts

Step 14A: Affix the KD110 to the mount

Starting at the bottom of the mount, install the KD110 on the mount you will hear a click when secured.

Step 15A: Turn you power back on

Go back to your home’s main breaker panel and restore the power

Step 7B: Mechanical with three wires

Choose your doorbell type

Integrated or intercom style doorbell

If you have an integrated or intercom style doorbell the KD110 cannot be installed.

Step 8B: Choosing no visible screws or one or more visible screws

Take a picture of how the current chime is wired for later reference

Step 9B: Install the Jumper

Step 7C: Electronic or MP3 Chime

Choose your doorbell type

Integrated or intercom style doorbell

If you have an integrated or intercom style doorbell the KD110 cannot be installed.

Step 8C: Choosing no visible screws or one or more visible screws

Take a picture of how the current chime is wired for later reference

Step 9B: Install the Jumper

Since electronic chimes vary greatly you will need to find the terminals for Trans and Front and connect these two wires together to bypass this chime.

Note: Don‘t skip installing the jumper or that may lead to some issues as the old chime rings itself without pressing the button on the smart doorbell.

Step 16: Follow the steps in the App to connect the KD110 to your home network.

Step 17: Plug the Chime at your desired location and pair the chime.

Pair the Chime: Press and hold the SYSC button for 3 secs on the Chime, the Led should start blinking green, meaning the chime is ready for pairing.

Press ‘ Pair’ on the app to continue.
