1. What’s the recommended usage scenario of Tapo T300?

Please refer to the below chart for reference.

Pipe Leaks

(Note: it’s not recommended to put the sensor outside to detect the rain fall as condensation that naturally forms outdoors may cause false alarms.)

2. Does the sensor package include a hub? Do I need to buy a separate hub to work with the sensor?

The sensor package doesn’t include a hub, so it’s suggested to buy a hub separately to work with the sensor. Tapo smart hubs: https://www.tp-link.com/home-networking/smart-hub/

3. How many Tapo T300 can sync with one hub and how many hubs can be synced with one Tapo T300?

Up to 64 sub-g sensors/switches can connect to one hub. One Tapo T300 can only connect with one hub.

4. How to reset and resync the sensor with a new hub?

Reset: press and hold the control button for 5 seconds until the LED is blinking green.

Resync: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/3118/

5. Does the Tapo T300 support other brands' hubs?

No, the Tapo Smart Water Leak Sensor must be connected to a Tapo hub.

6. What to do if the sensor fails to be activated after we press the control button for 5s?

Please open the rear cover of the battery to check whether there is any insulating strip stuck or left in the battery and make sure the battery is properly installed. If still fails, please try to take the batteries out and put them back in again.

7. Can the sensor still work without being configured via Tapo App?

Yes, even though the sensor is not installed via Tapo app, it will still sound an alert when water leak is detected. However, if the sensor is not installed and associated with the hub, it cannot be managed or controlled via the app.

8. Does the sensor support remote control through cloud server?

Yes, once the sensor is installed and paired with hub via Tapo App, we can control it remotely on the Tapo App.

9. What’s the battery life of Tapo T300?

With two replaceable AAA batteries, the sensor can last up to 1.5 years while coordinating with 24/7 Tapo Hub alarms. (Battery life of up to 1.5 years is based on TP-Link’s laboratory testing triggering 3mins alerts per month. Actual battery life may vary based on device settings, use, and environmental factors.)

10. Does the sensor support battery display or low battery notification?

Tapo T300 doesn’t support battery status display but a low battery reminder and a battery level indicator with one bar left would pop out when the power is less than 20%. So, please remember to replace the battery as soon as possible once the low battery notification pops out to ensure the sensor can function properly.

11. Where to buy the battery accessories?

Any common AAA/LR03 battery on the market is supported

12. What depth/conditions are required to trigger the alarm?

The alarm will sound once the water level exceeds 0.5mm when it is set horizontally.

13. How does the sensor sound an alert when water leak or drip is detected?

Once the water leak or drip is detected, the sensor would alarm immediately and keep alerting until we stop it manually or the water leak is solved. If the sensor is synced with a hub and a smart action is created, the hub would alarm simultaneously along with the sensor when water leak or drip is detected. So it’s suggested to stop the alarming on both sensor and hub separately if you receive the water leak notification.

14. How should we cancel the water leak alarming manually and remotely?

For sensor: press the control button for 1 second on the sensor or click on Clear Alert option on Tapo App as below.

For hub: press the sync button on the hub or click on icon on the Tapo App as below.

15. How to make the sensor recover back to monitor mode after being manually stopped?

After we stop the sensor alarming manually, the sensor won’t recover back to monitor mode until the water dried/water leak solved. Thus, please remember to mop the water stains on the sensor after stopping the alarm to avoid false water leak detection and ensure the next alert can be triggered successfully.

16. What to do if the sensor’s alarm volume gets lower after working for a period of time?

1)The alarm sound would be diminished if the buzzer was blocked or submerged in water. Instead of leaning against the wall, it is advised to install and position the sensor with the buzzer facing outward.

2)In order to extend the range of alarm transmission, it is best to pair the sensor with hub and set smart action on them to ring the hub when water leak or drip is detected.

3)Please refer to Q8 to adjust the sensor’s alarm volume.

17. How to adjust the sensor’s alarm volume?

Method 1: Double press the control button and the alarm volume level cycles through High, Normal, Low, and Mute.

Method 2: Open Tapo App, go to sensor’s device settings, click on ‘Alarm Volume’ and select volume levels as below.

18. How to set smart action for the sensor?

If we want the hub alarm with sensor simultaneously, we must set a smart action for the hub and sensor to ring the hub when water leak or drip is detected. The sensor can also cooperate with other devices in a smart action. There are two ways to set smart action for the sensor:

Method 1: Open Tapo App, tap on the sensor, click on ‘Explore Smart Actions’ and choose different smart action types to set.
