This article provides configuration guide to upgrading managed VIGI devices via VIGI VMS and VIGI Config Tool.

Introduction

This article explains how to upgrade managed VIGI devices using VIGI VMS and VIGI Config Tool.

Configuration

The VIGI device’s firmware can be upgraded via VIGI VMS or VIGI Config Tool when a new firmware version is released on TP-Link official website.

VMS Local

VMS Local includes VMS Web Portal, VMS PC Client, and VIGI App. Currently, only VMS Web Portal and VIGI App support firmware upgrades. We will take VMS Web Portal as an example.

VMS Web Portal

Step 1. Open the VMS Service Manager, ensure Basic Service and Media Service are running. Then click Open Web Portal.

Step 2. Log in to VIGI VMS. If you don’t have an account, create one first.

Step 3. Visit the Download Center | TP-Link to download the latest Firmware for your VIGI device.

Step 4. Upgrade the firmware using one of the following methods:

  • Upgrade on Device Page

Access the device view page, select the device to upgrade and click Upgrade. Import update file and click Update in the pop-up window. The upgrade will proceed and complete successfully.

  • Upgrade on System Settings

On the device view page, click the gear icon of the device. Navigate to System > System Management > Upgrade Firmware, then click Select an upgrade file (.bin), import the downloaded firmware and click Upgrade.

VIGI Config Tool

Step 1. Download and install VIGI Config Tool on a Windows PC.

Step 2. Upgrade the firmware using one of the following methods:

  • Online Upgrade

Select the device and click Online Upgrade. Review the release notes, confirm the number of devices to upgrade, click Upgrade, and wait for Upgrading.

  • Check for Update on System Settings

On the global view page, click the gear icon of the device. Go to System > System Management > Upgrade Firmware and click Check for Update in the pop-up window. Click Upgrade to apply the latest firmware.

  • Manual Download

Download the firmware from Download Center | TP-Link. In the Settings page, navigate to System > System Management > Upgrade Firmware, click Select file (.bin) on Local Upgrade, import the firmware file, and click Upgrade.

Verification

VMS Local

VMS Web Portal

Go to device view page and check if the current firmware version matches the upgraded version. If it matches the version you upgraded, the upgrade is successful.

VIGI Config Tool

On the device list page, check the current firmware information of the VIGI device. If it matches the version you upgraded, the upgrade is successful.
