How to Set up Schedule, Away Mode, and Timer for Smart Plug/Bulb/Switch in Kasa App

On Kasa smart devices such as plugs, light bulbs, light strips, and switches, you can create schedules, enable Away Mode, or set timers to control your devices as needed.

In this article, we’ll demonstrate how to set up the Schedule, Away Mode, and Timer features, using smart plugs and bulbs as examples.

Schedule

Case One. Create a schedule for a single device

  1. On the Kasa app Home page, click device card to enter the device page.
  2. Choose Schedule, then tap the + icon on the upper right corner to add a new schedule.
  3. Choose either a Custom Time, Sunrise, or Sunset time. When choosing Sunrise or Sunset, you can also set an offset time. The time of Sunrise and Sunset will be synchronized according to regional realities.
  4. Set the Repeat times within a week.
  5. Click Save. After creating schedules, you can always enable or disable them manually

Case Two. Create a schedule for multiple devices at once.

To set up a schedule for multiple devices at once, please refer to the following steps.

Note: This method utilizes automation, which requires the smart device to be connected to the internet to operate.

  1. Open Kasa App, go to Smart -> Click the ‘+’ icon on the top right corner -> Choose Smart Actions.
  2. Tap Add Trigger -> choose Trigger Time.

  1. Now you can start to set the scheduled time, then click Done.
  • Choose either a Custom Time, Sunrise, or Sunset time. When choosing Sunrise or Sunset, you can also set an offset time.

*Tip: The time of Sunrise and Sunset will be synchronized according to regional realities. Tap Me -> Settings -> Location and Time to sync the correct time.

  • Set the Repeat times within a week and Tap Done.

  1. Next, click “Add Action” to choose what smart devices you would like to control by the above time settings. choose “Control Smart Devices”. There are two methods to add multiple devices to a schedule.

Method one. Select a smart device, set it to be turned on/off, then add it to the action list. Repeat the process, adding the devices you want to turn on/off via the schedule to the action list one by one.

Here you can control different devices to turn on/off separately with the same schedule, e.g. while turning on plug KP405, turn off plug KP115 at 06:00.

Method Two. Create a group for your scheduled devices and add the group as an Action.

  1. Go to the Home page, tap the ‘+’ icon on the top right corner to Add Group.

How to Add A Group for Your Tapo Devices

  1. Then add this group to the action list: choose Control Smart Devices, locate the Group section in the list, and choose a group.

Case Three. Create a schedule to fade on/off the Kasa Dimmer device.

  1. On the Kasa app Home page, click device card to enter the device page.
  2. Choose Schedule, then tap the + icon on the upper right corner to add a new schedule.
  3. Choose either a Custom Time, Sunrise, or Sunset time. When choosing Sunrise or Sunset, you can also set an offset time. The time of Sunrise and Sunset will be synchronized according to regional realities.
  4. Tap Fade to set the Fade Rate to fade in/out your lights in a period of time you want.
  5. Set the Repeat times within a week.

Away Mode

By enabling the Away Mode feature on the Kasa IoT devices, the smart device will be randomly turned on and off in the set time, pretending someone’s at home.

Here we take Kasa smart plug to show you how to enable the Away Mode feature.

  1. On the Kasa app Home page, click device card to enter device page.
  2. Click the Away icon.

  1. Set up the start time and end time.
    • You can choose either a Custom Time, Sunrise, or Sunset time. When choosing Sunrise or Sunset, you can also set an offset time.

*Tip: The time of Sunrise and Sunset will be synchronized according to regional realities. Tap Me -> Settings -> Location and Time to sync the correct time.

    • Set the Repeat times within a week.
  1. Click Start to enable the away mode. You can stop the away mode on this page anytime.

Timer

Follow the instructions below to set a countdown timer to automatically turn the smart device on or off after a certain amount of time.

  1. On the Kasa app Home page, click device card to enter device page.
  2. Click the Timer.
  3. Set a countdown time to turn on/off the smart device when the timer ends.

Auto-Off Timer (For Smart Plug)

The auto-off timer feature can help you turn off the appliance automatically after the set time whenever it turns on.

Case One: For Kasa EP40M, KP125M, EP25V2

Case Two: For Other Kasa Plugs

  1. Open Kasa App, go to Smart -> Click the ‘+’ icon on the top right corner -> Choose Smart Actions.
  2. Tap Add Trigger -> choose Trigger Time.

  1. Choose the same smart plug as both the Trigger and Action device, with different ON/OFF operations.

For example, set ‘Turn on KP105’ as a trigger and ‘Turn off KP105’ as an action.

  1. Use Delay Action to set auto-off time. Then click Save.

In this example, KP105 will be turned off automatically after 10 minutes each time it is turned on.
