How do I configure 802.11 Rate Control on the Omada Controller
Contents
Objective
This article describes how to configure the 802.11 Rate Control feature on the Omada Controller, which can improve the performance of high-density networks by disabling lower bit rates and allowing only higher bit rates.
Requirements
Introduction
Rate control is a key feature of the IEEE 802.11 wireless networking standard that allows devices to adapt to changing channel conditions and dynamically select the best bit rate for transmitting data. This helps reduce the possibility of errors and retransmissions and increases the throughput of the network, thereby improving the overall performance of the network. 802.11 Rate Control can dynamically adjust the transmission rate to maximize the performance of the radio link.
Configuration
Step 1. Log in to the Controller and go to Site Settings > Wireless Networks > WLAN and edit an SSID.
Step 2. Expand the 802.11 Rate Control option.
Step 3. Select the corresponding band to configure it. This article takes 2.4 GHz Data Rate Control as an example. Enable the Minimum Data Rate Control, move the slider to set the bit rate allowed for the 2.4 GHz network.
- Disable CCK Rates (1/2/5.5/11 Mbps): Check the box to disable CCK rates (1/2/5.5/11Mbps). CCK (Complementary Code Keying) is a modulation scheme for 802.11b devices and is applicable only in the 2.4 GHz band.
- Require Clients to Use Rates at or Above the Specified Value: Check the box if you want to require clients to use rates equal to or above the specified value on the Minimum Data Rate Controller slider.
- Send Beacons at 1 Mbps/6 Mbps: Check the box if you want clients to send beacons at a minimum rate of 1Mbps on the 2.4GHz band (or 6Mbps on the 5GHz band).
Step 4. Click Apply.
Conclusion
Following the steps above, you can configure 802.11 Rate Control on the Omada Controller.
