PartnerJangala is a humanitarian technology charity which operates in 36 countries. Its mission is to provide internet connectivity to individuals, small and large groups of people, particularly in the context of disaster response and the SDGs.

Key to success was the need for our solution to be robust and reliable enough to withstand tough and variable weather conditions around the world. Plus support a large number of people whilst also being cost-effective.
Solution
Our TP-Link PoE switch solution can be easily managed remotely from anywhere in the world. Our switch worked in conjunction with Big Box seamlessly providing Jangala’s operations in various markets with the reliability they were looking for.
Result
Jangala are now supporting 36 countries with remote SIM operated Wi-Fi and have connected more than 100,000 people who are facing humanitarian disasters to their loved ones and support networks like Jangala.

Jangala targets schools, educational charities, and disaster response teams across the world where connectivity is particularly challenging. Jangala works in partnership with organisations in local communities to make the greatest difference on the ground using two innovative networking products: Big Box and Get Box. More than 100,000 people across 36 countries are now connected, from Peru to Pakistan.

Challenge
Delivering internet solutions to remote or hard to reach locations around the world is extremely challenging.
For sites such as refugee camps or disaster zones, setting up equipments can be expensive, time consuming, and sometimes dangerous. Jangala needed to find a cost-effective solution that could be easily and quickly shipped internationally and managed remotely, with the power to connect large groups. It also needed to be robust enough to withstand extreme conditions and perform across various environments around the world.

Identifying the Product
Prior to getting in touch with Data Comms Direct, Jangala had considered three other different brands. DCDI listened to their requirements; a cost- effective, compact & robust gigabit switch and with confidence we recommended the feature-packed TL-SG2210P, a slimline (26mm deep) 8 port switch in a hard-wearing steel case. Easy Deployable Devices
By building a product using off-the-shelf components that are easy to transport and could be set up remotely, the charity no longer needed to dedicate valuable time to travel to hard-to-reach locations. As a direct result, Jangala can now ensure that remote, disconnected communities have access to secure, reliable and expandable Wi-Fi that could be set up in just a few minutes.

The Solution
Big Box consists of a range of networking technology and supporting equipment – such as antennas to improve the signal, access points, solar panels and batteries for use on-the-go. At the heart of Big Box is TP-Link’s TL-SG2210P Managed Switch that powers the external access points from one single source, making it very simple for users to connect other devices and extend the Wi-Fi network. TP-Link’s TL-SG2210P single network cable eliminates the need for additional power outlets and adapters and can support data and power transmissions up to 250 metres away.

Connecting Brighter Futures
Jangala also works with local project partners who understand the needs of their communities and work on delivering reliable connectivity and technical support when needed. One example of Jangala’s impact is in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the charity has partnered with local charity, CEAFPD, to provide IT and coding training. Jangala has also deployed Big Boxes which are powered by the TP-Link switch in the world's biggest refugee camp in Kenya, where students are now being actively enrolled onto programmes at The University of Cambridge.

Future Plans
Jangala has further exciting projects in the pipeline, including an initiative for Get Box to tackle digital inclusion and support local communities in the UK. Jangala aims to provide 5,000 households in need of reliable internet connection and the charity is also ramping up production of Big Box with the goal of connecting 4 million people by 2029. The company also plans to include, and extend, TP-Link’s networking devices in its technology.
