Q1: What is an emergency code?

A: An emergency code is used in case of emergencies or when other unlocking methods are unavailable. It can be generated remotely through the Tapo app. The generated emergency code can only be used once within the valid time. Tapo will let you know the valid time once the code is generated.

Q2: How many emergency codes can I generate?

A: You can generate up to 16 emergency codes every 4 hours. If you receive the prompt that the number of emergency codes has reached its limit, then you will need to wait until the next 4-hour cycle starts to continue generating more emergency codes.

Q3: Are there any security risks with emergency codes?

A: Please rest assured that Tapo has implemented robust security measures to enhance the safety of your emergency codes. Only you are allowed to generate an emergency code within the Tapo app. Please keep the code in a secure location and do not share it with untrusted individuals.

Q4: Why am I unable to unlock the door using the emergency code?

A: If the system time of your lock is incorrect, it can cause the emergency code to be invalid. If your lock is not connected to a Wi-Fi network and relies only on Bluetooth connectivity, removing the battery can result in an incorrect system time. You will need to reconnect your phone (with internet access) to your lock via Bluetooth. Then the lock’s time will be synchronized.
