With a standard RMA a customer will ship their defective unit to TP-Link first.  After receiving the product TP-Link will ship the replacement product at no additional charge.

*Note:  Customers will be required to cover the cost of shipping the defective unit to TP-Link.

Explaining TP-Link Advanced RMA Fees and Process

When you process Advanced RMA with TP-Link you are asking for TP-Link to send you the replacement unit before we receive the defective unit.  This is the reason why we charge the convenience fee between $14.99 and $49.99 depending on the method of shipment chosen.  We also provide a free return label with the replacement unit.  Also, as stipulated in our policy if we do not receive the defective unit within 25 days of the RMA submission, we will charge you (the customer) the cost of the replacement item.  As you know you must authorize a payment charged to your credit card so this pre-approved (pending) payment is charged to the card at the same time as your convenience fee.  This pre-approved amount covers the replacement unit’s cost and applicable tax for said unit.  While this amount is removed from available credit (because of this we do not recommend debit cards be used) but, it is not actually charged until the 25 days are up.

However, your receipt from PayPal will, at least at this time look like the whole amount is being charged at the time of the transaction, however, this is not true.  If you review this FAQ, on step 9, the screen before you go to the payment provider to process the payment for your RMA, it will show what is going to be charged that day.  While there will be a hold amount placed, it is not actually be charged until the 25-day period expires.  If the defective unit is returned before the 25-day period expires, then the hold amount will fall off and the held funds will be returned to your card’s available credit.
