How to set up Multi-WAN Backup on Your TL-WR1502X Travel Router

Multi-WAN Backup is a feature that, when enabled, allows you to configure two Internet connection sources for your TL-WR1502X Travel Router: a primary WAN for your default Internet connection and a secondary WAN for backup. This means that if your primary WAN connection fails, the Tl-WR1502X Travel Router will automatically switch to the backup Internet source via the secondary WAN, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity at all times.

Before You Start

Make sure your portable router is working in Router or USB Internet Mode. Multi-WAN Backup is available only in these modes.

To change the operation modes for your router:

1. Toggle the Mode Switch on the router to your desired mode. Wait for 2 minutes until the router reboots automatically.
2. Refer to How to set up the TL-WR1502X Travel Router to set up your TL-WR1502X.

Set Up Multi-WAN Backup

The following steps will guide you through setting up Multi-WAN Backup for your TL-WR1502X Travel Router.

1. Visit http://tplinkwifi.net and log in with the username and password you set for the router.
2. Go to Advanced > Network > Multi-WAN Backup.
3. Enable Multi-WAN Backup.

4. In Network Connection Priority, you can modify the connection priority and settings.

• Click  to enter the connection settings menu for Router mode USB Internet Tethering mode.

• Click  to adjust the Multi-WAN Backup priority. The first mode will be the primary connection mode, and the second one will be the backup connection mode. The backup mode will take over when the primary connection fails, and your network will remain connected.

5. The router uses Ping to periodically check the router mode's connection status and USB Internet to identify whether the internet is available. You can edit the following parameters:

• Track Interval - The time interval between consecutive ICMP echo requests. You are recommended to keep it as the default.
• Change to unavailable/available if Ping failed/succeeded for X Times - The connection status will change to Disconnected/Connected if the Ping Failure/ Success times reach the value you set.
• IPv4 Track IP/Domain Name - Enter the IP address or domain name of the tested host or other network device to check the connectivity between the router. You can add up to four items.
